GCER - Day 4

Up and Downs

The first-time this week we could sleep until 8 o’clock. After the breakfast, some of us went to Norman while Alex D., Alex Z. and Florian stayed in the hotel to improve our robots for the DE-Rounds.

In the morning the “Dronis” Harald, Rene and Valentin tested their Drone and Stefan, Christian, Viktoria, Matthias and Florentina listened to the studenttalks, presented our team and made new friends.

After lunch, we started the Open Practise, our robots worked very well and we were confident that we had good chance to win the next match. During the Open practise and the DE-Rounds Florentina, Matthias, Stefan and Christian observed the gametable and wrote down their strategy, the way of the robots and the points of each team.

Then we had the first DE-Game for this day, we were prepared very well and in the practise rounds everything worked perfectly. But suddenly our hay-stacks fell over and we only scored 8 Points. So this was our first loss.
The next DE-Round wasn’t better. We had problems to compile the program at the Wallaby but it didn’t work, so we used our timeout-card but we were not able to solve the problem. So, we started only with one robot. This time we had the same problems like before and so we scored only one point and lost also this round. After this two disappointing setbacks we left the DE and came to the Alliances.

But not everything ran bad.
It ran really, really good!
The “Dronis” had very good runs in the DE and scored up to 170 points! The drone was exactly doing the programmed task! Finally, our efforts payed off! With this awesome performance, we won the Aerial World Championship.

In the evening, we had the FARM Activity. That are funny games, which are played together with the Botball-family. It was pretty funny and a good way to get other thoughts. We had a team meeting to discuss our further approach. We decided to build a new robot for the Alliances to earn as many points as possible to get one Trophy.

Höhen und Tiefen

Das erste Mal in dieser Woche konnten wir bis 8 Uhr schlafen. Nach dem Frühstück fuhren einige von uns nach Norman, während Alex D., Alex Z. und Florian im Hotel blieben um die Roboter zu verbessern.

Am Vormittag testeten die "Dronis" Harald, Rene and Valentin ihre Drone. Stefan, Christian, Viktoria, Matthias und Florentina haben sich Präsentationen angehört, ihr Team präsentiert und neue Freundschaften geschlossen.

Nach dem Mittagessen startete Open Practise, unsere Roboter funktionierten gut und wir waren zuversichtlich die nächste Runde zu gewinnen. Während dem Open Practice und den DE-Runden, haben Florentina, Matthias, Stefan und Christian die Gametable beobachtet und die Strategien notiert.

Wir hatten unsere erste DE-Runde an diesem Tag und wir waren relativ gut vorbereitet, da in den Practise alles funktionierte. Aber plötzlich fielen die Heuballen um und wir hatten nur einen Score von 8 Punkten. Das war unsere erste Niederlage.
Die nächste DE-Runde war nicht besser. Wir hatten Probleme mit dem Kompilieren des Programmes am Wallaby und wir mussten unsere Timeout-Karte nützen, doch wir waren nicht in der Lage das Problem zu lösen. Wir hatten die selben Probleme wie in der vorherigen Runde und erreichten einen ganzen Punkt! Nach diesem enttäuschenden Rückschlag sind wir ausgeschieden und kommen in die Alliances.

Aber nicht alles lief schlecht...
Es lief sogar richtig, richtig gut!
Die “Dronis” hatten wirklich gute Läufe in der DE und erreichten bis zu 170 Punkte! Die Drone machte exakt den programmierten Ablauf! Endlich haben sich unsere Anstrengungen ausgezahlt. Mit dieser herausragenden Performace haben wir die Aerial Weltmeisterschaft gewonnen.

Am Abend fand die FARM Aktivität statt. Das sind lustige Spiele, die gemeinsam mit der Botball-Familie gespielt werden. Es war wirklich lustig und ein guter Weg um auf andere Gedanken zu kommen!
